Avast, me hearties!*

Thankyou everyone for the lovely birthday wishes for Pirate Jim! I'm terribly behind in blogging, but we had a small celebration for him the weekend before his birthday. I've been putting off the whole kids party catastrophe, but I think next year we will go there. This year, my parents (aka Nana and Grandpa) came to visit, along with some other special guests, for a bbq lunch.

Fireman PJ was on duty just in case the bbq got out of control. (That boy loves climbing ladders and being up high. It makes my heart stop and I am dreading the day he figures out how to get on the roof of the house. Or up a tree....)

After the bbq lunch, there was unwrapping of gifts. This one is from Nana and Grandpa. What can it be, PJ?

A Pirate Ship!!

Grandpa takes his grandparenting duties very seriously, and this includes major construction. This now lives in our backyard. I think we have to buy this house now, and live here for ever and ever, because I am not looking forward the day we need to move.

And do you think PJ might have liked it? He's the Captain!

And of course there were Pirate Crew on hand....Ahoy me hearties!!

And a pirate cake....
Made from this book. And because what I lack in parenting skills I try to make up for in baking, I over-achieved and made another cake for PJ's birthday-day at childcare.

It's a bit wobbly, as it's out of my own head, but the kids loved it.
Now I believe I have some First Mate duties to attend to! Arrggghhh!

*Ive been swotting up on Pirate lingo. Can ye land-lubbing scurvy bilge-rats tell?

Can my boys have your boy's grandpa for a while? Oh my word they would LOVE that boat. Whenever we go to Mystic Seaport and they play on the "playscape" boats, which are all fishing-type boats, they make them pirate boats. I bet you get a lot of knitting time while he plays on that! I know I would.

And I am late in wishing PJ a happy birthday!!

OMG that is some boat! What a great grandpa. Geez, I hope Grace wants a doll's house from Grandpa. Maybe you could live in it, if you have to move ever!!

Great job on the cakes - fantastic.

And I personally think Bells should have put the sunglasses on over the eyepatch!! (or the eyepatch over the sunglasses??

ahoy, what a ship! I too have a pirate and what he would give for a ship like that... not quite the same as an old brick BBQ and a skull and cross bones painted sheet.

Ooo! PJ is truly a Pirate King. Well done Grandpa.

I think the moustache would look better on PJ than it does on Bells!

Why couldn't I have a grandpa like that????

Has he asked to sleep/live on the ship yet?

Oh, my, PJ made out like a bandit (or, i suppose, a pirate) this year! What a wonderful Grandpa to give such an amazing gift. And how sporting of Bells to agree to get a picture taken with the patch and the 'stache (my roommate had some serious chemical-related eye issues about a year ago and we had to get her an eye patch to wear while the eye healed up. wouldn't you know, we drew a skull and crossbones on it. oddly enough, she wasn't amused).

What a wonderful gift! Grandpa is truly talented. He could have a second career making those. Pj looks right at home there. Maybe a career at sea is in his future? Kate climbed every tree in our yard she could scamper up. Needless to say, she didn't tell me until she was down.

Good grief! I saw a pirate ship on BH&G a few months ago but this is like a Rolls Royce of ships in comparison. I bet he has just THE BEST TIME every time PJ heads out the back door!

Wow! That is the best birthday present ever!!! Wow. How does one improve on that next year? What's he going to give him for his 18th?
I'll bet he's a pretty popular grandpa!!
Happy birthday to PJ!!
