Sock Progress

Due to popular demand, here is an account of my sock progress in the last week or so.

If I had to describe it in a single word it would be this: slow.

Since my triumphant finish of the first Opal Smoke plain sock, I have been plodding along with the second:

I may be about to lose my "newbie" status on Southern Summer of Socks with the following statement but...I think I'm over the plain sock. I'm up for a challange.

So I dived into the stash, joined the rest of the known knitting universe and cast on a Monkey:

The yarn is Jawoll Colour Superwash. I did the cuff using three needles instead of 4, being still too newbie-ish to juggle 4. But Im loving the pattern and it cruises along quite nicely.

Not as easy to pick up for a round or too when the Pirate is rampaging as a plain sock, so I think there's room in my life for fancy and plain socks.

That's how I feel. Plain knitting for the odd moments when the boys will LET me knit, and thinking knitting for when they're asleep. Although if you ask them, I'm always knitting. It's not true, though. I'm often on the computer. :-)

Just to be clear, I'm never going to knit socks. Ever. But that bottom pair with the fancy bits and the pretty purple yarn, I can almost understand why you crazy folks do it. Almost. ;)

oh my! it took me a LOT longer than that to get up the courage to go where you're going. but you know, its important to challenge oneself, and if that means having two pairs of socks going at once, well, so be it. i too am going to cast on a plain pair tonight so that i have something i dont need to think about while hanging around in paddocks etc :)

That is one very good looking Monkey Sock. Exceptionally so! Good work!

Oh and I swear by the plain and fancy on the go simultaneously.

I have yet to cast on a monkey sock...believe it or not!!!!!! Maybe one day.....when I don't have 8 socks on the go at once.

Pretty pretty pretty! - that's the way mum's do it - plain socks for not concentrating on knitting times and fancy socks for the others! Hurrah for Georgie joining the n=monkey club!

The purple monkeys are brilliant! (I love that word). They look great.

Gorgeous work, George, just gorgeous. I can't vouch for the process, but monkeys sure do feel good on the feet. I'm joining the consensus on this one, there's something to be said for plain socks you can knit without having to think and socks that you knit to stretch your skills out.
